Attractions to Visit in Peoria 

Peoria, Arizona is the ninth largest city in the State of Arizona, with a population of over 100,000 people. It is also one of the fastest growing communities in the state. In fact, between 1990 and 2000 Peoria was the 2nd fastest growing city in the United States. Geographically, Peoria covers 144 square miles in the northwest part of the valley.  

Arrowhead Towne Center - Shopping Mall - shopping, dining, and a movie theater located in mall: North of Bell Road between 75th & 83rd Avenue 

Lake Pleasant Regional Park/Rentals - watercraft rentals, boat ramps, hiking, picnicking, camping: Located Off Castle Hot Springs Road 

Desert Princess II - Paddle wheel boat that offers sightseeing and dinner cruises. Special activities are held throughout the year. Boat is available for weddings and special occasions 

Challenger Space Center - If space is your passion then this is a must visit. Explore the facility on your own, watch a movie, go on a tour or take a space mission - 21170 N. 83rd Avenue (Next to Sunrise Mountain High School), (623) 322-2001 

Turf Soaring Flights/School - Soar in a glider over the pristine desert and enjoy an aerial view of Lake Pleasant. Try a smooth, silent flight for everyone or aerobatic flights for the thrill seeker. 8700 W. Carefree Highway (North on Lake Pleasant Road, (602) 439-3621 

Canyon Raceway -Catch the Saturday night fever. Canyon Raceway is a 3/8 mile clay oval that runs Modifieds.  

Peoria Historical Society Museum -Ever wonder what early life in Peoria was like, here’s a look back in time. 

Polar Ice - Olympic and NHL sized ice for indoor ice-skating and hockey, 15829 N. 83rd Avenue, (623) 334-1200 

Wildlife World Zoo - Home to white tigers, and an incredible display of exotic animals. You won't want to miss out on hand-feeding giraffes and birds. 16501 W. Northern Avenue, (623) 935-9453 

Peoria Sports Complex - 10,000 seat stadium and 12 practice fields (Spring Training, Concerts, Events, and more). 16101 N. 83rd Avenue, (623) 773-7110 

Golfing - Public and private courses are located in Peoria and in nearby communities 

Cowtown - Mini 1800's style ghost town designed by Ron Nix, former Hollywood stuntman. Group BBQ cookouts are currently offered and horseback trail rides are in the works. Numerous films and commercials have been filmed there. 

Rollerplex - Large indoor roller-skating facility. Fun for the whole family on 75th Avenue and north of Thunderbird Road

Attractions to Visit in Glendale 


Glendale, Arizona is a residential community west of Phoenix and is located in the Northwest part of the Valley of the Sun. Here are my top picks for places to visit in Glendale, Arizona: 

Historic Sahuaro Ranch
Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Sahuaro Ranch is just north of downtown Glendale. Built in 1885, there are 17 ranch buildings available to be toured on this 17 acre property which also includes a rose garden. Many special events are held at the Sahuaro Ranch, including the popular Antique Tractor and Engine Show each February. 

Historic Downtown Glendale
"Arizona's Antique Capital" boasts more than 90 antique shops in the downtown area, all within walking distance of one another. Don't miss the trolley and the Caitlin Court Historic District.  

Cerreta Candy Company
Take a special guided tour of this family-owned hometown candy factory. They’ll show you how a sea of caramel becomes wrapped tempting taste treats. Learn how cream centers are enrobed in luscious chocolate. These tours are about 30 minutes long and are offered Monday through Friday. 

White Tank Mountain Regional Park
Not technically in Glendale, it's a few miles west but is well worth mentioning here. There are about 21 miles of of hiking and biking trails at all levels of difficulty. Waterfall Trail, suitable for kids, is a favorite and leads to Petroglyph Plaza

Glendale Xeriscape Botanical Garden
Considered one of the best demonstration gardens in the state, the garden has over 1,000 varieties of desert plants on about 4 acres. The walking paths of the garden are open every day, and there is no charge. Want some ideas for your yard? This is the place to go! 

The Bead Museum
This unique museum was founded in 1984 by Gabrielle Liese and houses an international collection of over 100,000 beads and beaded artifacts. The museum features permanent and changing exhibitions, and education and outreach programs of lectures, tours, and classes for the visitor. 

Arrowhead Towne Center
If you want to shop or eat or go to a movie, this is the place for you. One of the newer malls in the greater Phoenix area, it is located in northern Glendale at 75th Avenue and Bell Road

Thunderbird Park
There are about 1,000 acres of desert preserve here, the only mountain preserve in Glendale. Major jogging trails and bike trails are here, along with horseback riding and picnicking opportunities.  

Glendale Chocolate Affaire
Chocoholics everywhere descend on Glendale, Arizona for the sweetest event in the area. Each February this free event is held at Murphy Park in Downtown Historic Glendale. 

Glendale Glitters
When the winter holidays roll around Glendale likes to celebrate in a big way. The huge holiday lights display lasts for about two months. Special events include Enchanted Evenings, with family-oriented activities, rides, crafts and entertainment, and the Balloon Glow and Block Party.
